“All I had to offer him was brokenness and strife, but He made something beautiful of my life and the song goes on as I increase the volume…”

[‘Something Beautiful’ song written and composed By Bill Gaither; Gaither Vocal Band (1989)].

Those words hit me so hard because I knew at that moment that I wanted to fix myself, deal with everything, the grief, the broken heart, a crying soul, and questions I could not even answer myself. Forgetting to surrender to the pansophical, all-knowing, God who even knew I’d be in such a condition at that right moment.

I got a paper and started penning down my emotions into poetry:

Pain comes like a thief in the middle of the night,

Stealing the only moment that makes our days right…

I don’t know the name of your thief, but I’ll mention a few names of those that usually visit us. There is abuse, heartbreak, disappointment, depression, grief, illness, divorce. . . you name it. They are unavoidable and some of us seem to live on a continuum where we seem to go from suffering to suffering.

I might not be feeling the depth of what your thief has stolen from you but I’m quite sure that there is coming a day when what was once your pain will be taken by God and He will cover it with His divine protection. Just remember your pain can become a promise your struggle, a song of deliverance.

Perhaps you are spending too much time focusing on the thief or thieves in your life. Instead, focus on the process and the outcome. There are reasons we go through hard things. There are reasons God must break us down. Remember we live in a lost and hurting world. How can we help those who are suffering if we ourselves have not suffered?

Paul put it so well in II Corinthians 4 verse 8 and 9 (NKJV) “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” Going back a bit in Romans 8:37, he also says that in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Whoever your thief might be in your life, you are conquering Him today!
